We’re connected, he and I
As I walked along an empty road, lost in my thoughts
A little turtle, slow and steady, crossed my path
Reminding me of myself
I watched it plod slowly along
His bright, numerous spots
Mirror my own unique style and quirks
Be yourself his shell speaks to me
Stand out from the bale
His shell protects him from harm
Just as my home shields me
from the dangers of the outside world
We find comfort in our shelters
The turtle’s slow and methodical movements
Remind me that patience
slow and steady, will win the race
We’re connected, he and I
Confidently gliding through the forest
He never pauses to question his instincts
Relying on himself and confident in his decisions
Mirrors my own self-reliance and independence
His determination on reaching his destination
Match my own drive,
Reflect my motivation heading towards a goal
We’re connected, he and I
Looking around the dark, deep forest before us
The turtle and I are matched, our souls entwined
We’re similar, he and I, finding peace
In this dim, quiet place, we’ve found paradise
His long neck poking out, taking in his surroundings
Reflects my same curiosity to see new and wondrous things
In the ever-changing world around me
We’re connected, he and I
Boom! Thunder rumbles in the distance
The turtle’s neck quickly contracts
back into his shell he goes
Just as I shy away from the fearful unknowns
It soon starts to pour down rain
And I quickly scoop him up, to a place free from danger
Providing him the love and comfort he needs
As a loyal companion should always do
A radiant rainbow appears in the sky
And I turn to leave, back to the world awaiting beyond
But I know I will never truly abandon this turtle
As we’re connected, he and I
