What is This?

I sit down

I open my laptop

I go to the site I know by heart

My fingers tapping away at the familiar keys

I don’t have to look anymore

I open a link

And I read

I have read before

But nothing like this

The words reach up to me

In an order I have never seen before

They rhyme

They repeat

They make sounds

For the first time

They have real meaning

I go around

Ask everyone I know

What is this

This thing that makes me laugh

Makes me happy

Makes me surprised

What is this, this thing

That makes me cry

That makes me think

That makes me see

Differently

What is this thing that

Empowers me

Makes me feel like Queen of the world

That makes me feel

Real feelings

Does it make you feel

Real feelings too

Does it make you see me

Differently

Am I different to you now

I have always been different

And because of this thing

I am seeing right now

I know who I am

And others will find out

Who I am

I must know now

What this is

I think again

About the thing that has changed me

That has made me see

Myself for who I am

It can only be one thing
