What Am I?
What am I?
Different people are telling me different things
Some say I'm a hog not worthy of life
While others say I'm a man and should stand up and fight
The ones who call me a hog judge me merely
By the color of my skin
And because of this dark skin they ignore my pleas for help
Until I give up and accept my fate
Everyone's faces run together and become unrecognizable
Until a man pulls me out of the murkiness inside my head
He calls me a somebody, a savior, and tells me to stay strong
And then one day, I believe him
I become what they need me to be
As I walk out the door, down the hall, through the room
And as I sit down and wait to die
I finally know what I am
A person, not white or black, but a human being
Worthy of love and life
