What Am I Worth?

What am I Worth?

I woke up today knowing it’s one of those days

one of those days that makes it difficult to stay.

I am a young girl who looks full of life

Yet my insides feel dark so full of strife.

As I start getting ready, my morning ritual has begun

I stare, and I wonder if I have left anything undone

I look in my mirror, and I try to embrace

What am I worth? Look at this face?

What am I worth if you put a price tag on me?

Am I the cost of a coffee with sugar and cream?

Or am I worth more than you could possibly dream?

Do I compare to the smell of the most expensive perfume?

Would you have enough to buy me with your purse of doubloons?

Could you pick me out in a crowd by aroma alone?

Or have I been gone a little too long?

You say that you will never forget my face

Yet you ignore me when I am in your space

You say that my eyes are windows into my soul

But you fail to look, to see me at all.

Does my melody compare to the Thorn bird’s song?

Who sings only once, and then they are gone.

Who lives their whole life trying to please,

like a merciless thorn that forgets them with ease.

What could I be worth to someone someday,

To someone who cares, cares enough to say

You are worth so much, a sum I could never repay

You are worth so much more than a coffee alone

Perhaps, we could add a beignet and even a scone

You are worth so much more than sugar and cream

You are the most expensive creation that I’ve ever seen.

I could pick you out anywhere in a crowded room

Your smell is addictive, one I could consume

No matter how long you have been away

You are worth it to me more than money can pay

I could listen to your melody, your beautiful song

Every day, every night, until I am gone

You are worth so much more than words can say

Please tell me you believe; tell me you’ll stay.
