What do I know?

Location

The whole world is screaming

Everyone has an answer and none of them are correct

It’s a mass of conflicting ideals of religion and politics and argumentative tones

There are explosions of ambiguity and prejudice like bombs set to wipe the minds clean for manipulation

I keep hearing these whispers through the rubble

They tell me I don’t have what it takes to save them

Someone at my age is supposedly unequipped for such turmoil

The appropriate quantity of experience is evidently inexistent

But what they don’t know is that this is not my first time here

If they would only open their eyes to extent of their closed mindedness they’d see the wisdom in my aged soul

Yet they still rage, “what do you know?”

You want to know what I know?

I know that love is so strong because it wins a war against hate each and every day

Two people can love each other so passionately because love itself has had to fight from the day it was created

And love keeps fighting

It fights against religion and prejudice

Race and politics

And it WILL win because afterall, it’s had quite a bit of practice

You want to know what I know?

I know that good people don’t have to be

There is no human obligation to maintain a heart of gold

Believe it or not your mother didn’t have to keep you

But something told her she could be the one to love you and provide for you no matter the circumstances

And your father, he didn’t have to stay

But something told him that he could be the man who was man enough to raise you

Therefore I know that we should say thanks to those who are what they didn’t have to be

And I know that each day is a gift and here we are wasting them

There’s no promise for tomorrow

Yet take a look at the way we are making use of our todays

Each moment a gun goes off and shoots down brilliance and perseverance

The only statements that ring strong through the gunshots are those of the corrupt

You want to know what I know?

I know that we need to seize fire

A stray bullet has just shot down the cure and we continue firing.

It’s going to take a long time to repair the damage done

But like love we must continue to fight

And more must choose to be the people they didn’t have to be

And I know that this will not be easy but, I’ve been here before and I’m sure I’ll be here again

And when I get back I hope they ask me again with a glisten of possibilities in their eyes

They say you know

Tell us, child

We want to know what you know
