What Do You Do?
What do you do,
What can you do,
When you have so many things to say
When you have so much you want,
No need,
To say?
What do you do,
When you have a myriad of words dancing at the tip of your tongue,
That never pass your lips,
Because you know,
You understand,
That nobody else wants to hear about this?
What do you do,
When you’ve been told your whole life,
To be quiet,
To shut up because you talk too much?
What do you do,
When your throat is burning with unspoken words?
What do you do?
You open your mouth and let the words fall like acid rain onto the barren plain,
Burning everything,
Yet cooling your burning tongue.
You write your words and you hand them out to the world like candy,
Sharing your thoughts through poetry-
You shout your words at anyone who will listen,
Using spoken word to share the word.
You refuse to stay silent when your mind is a cacophony of sound,
You refuse to listen when they tell you to be quiet,
And you shout at the top of your lungs,
In freeform stanzas and rhyming verses.
I write poetry to give a voice to the noise in my head,
Shout my spoken word,
So that my voice will be heard
So they'll remember me when I'm dead
What do you do,
What can you do,
When you have so many things to say
When you have so much you want,
No need,
To say?
You say it
