What Do You See?
One look at me and what do you see?
A high school senior just skating by?
The captain of the cheer squad with her pony tail up high?
Do you see the supportive sister of two young soccer players?
Or do you see a girl who is tired of all the nay sayers?
Do you see a girl with whole lot of friends?
And spends most nights out for the weekend?
Do I look like I listen to pop or rap?
Do I love dogs?
Or am I obsessed with my cat?
Well here is a hint
A secret I'll pass from you to me
That you shouldn't believe all that you see
I am a high school senior procrastinating my life and just getting by
Truth is though
I don't know why
I am a captain who feels like she will never be good enough
No matter how hard I try
I am the sister of two very skilled young brothers
Whose futures are looking bright
We argue quite often
Because I always think I’m right
I am a girl who hates negativity
But sadly that's all I've been hearing lately
The people I called friends
They came and they went
Treating me like I wasted the time they spent
Sometimes I go out but most nights I stay in
Trying to figure out how my book will end
Sometimes I listen to pop or rap
But really I love listening to all music
All music is art
How can you not appreciate that?
I love all animals’ dogs, lizards, and horses
Well except for cats
They kind of seem like a nuisance
Now please
Don’t judge me for what I’ve shared with you
I’ve spent my whole life not judging you too
You can be African, Asian, American Christian, Muslim, Jew
You can be single, married, straight, or gay
Be whatever you want I will still love you
This is me without my filter
Please don’t be a hater
Share with yourself me don’t be shy
You’ve been hiding behind filters for so long
Now the only question is
Why?
