What Do you See when you look at Me?

What do you see when you look at me?? I put my pencil to the paper and the word just came to me, When you look at me what do you see, Do you see the scared little girl in side me, who's felt her father was never there And felt he never cared, A little girl determined to fill the void With the spoken word from the lord, Do you see my burning desire to succeed Above and beyond what is expected Maybe you see the next future president When you look at me! Or do you see my gender and the color of my skin. Skin the color of carmel smooth like a new leather couch Or do you see black "black" a term that never goes away that is hear to stay Black is so unknown like a dark hole It is what prevents me from be bold because it has a way of keeping me down, So tell me what do you see When you look at me Do you see my past Were I have been To hell and back From sinner to born again Christian How about thatI Do you see a women Who is accomplished and is reaching for the sky A women who carries herself with class Picking up on every task Someone who is responsible Who independent....... Who has a love and thirst for God Tell me what do you see Because I'm all that I write So I hope you have an appetite For the truth about me I aim to be all I can be In this world you see To be the best and be put to the test I am not my father child But I do intend to make my mother proud To be the first child to graduate It was definitely not a piece of cake. But a challenge that I have overcome But my journey has just begun Now to overcome my gender and my race Of course at my own pace If I do not write I will be left with out a trace I aim to be different So therefore I'm not forgotten Also to make sure I'm on top not the bottom So what do i see when I put my pen to paper, I don't see color nor gender just me I see a butterfly that has shed it's cacoon and left it behind A butterfly that is ready to spread its wings and fly Because the first flight is the hardest To say goodbye to college and hello to life A butterfly cause each one is different in every way A design specifically made by god to be unique in every way That's why I dare to be different. That's why I ask what do you see when you look at me. I see different and that describes me. I see my poetry as beautiful can't you see
