What Does Boxing Day Mean To Me?
What Does Boxing Day Mean To
Me?
what does
Boxing Day really mean to me?
Christmas’s gone;
now left behind you see,
crumpled paper all over place,
kiddie toys left strewed around
and marooned all over ground,
Christmas cards on string,
a swinging in the breeze
doing their thing for now,
before being cast aside
in environmental rubbish bin.
Christmas tree
has only a forgotten present,
stowed neatly underneath,
before the owner is found on another day
in future,
test cricket on the telly;
always in the background,
and Bill Lawry’s on the mike;
he’s orff identifying pigeons,
in outer reaches
of the MCG,
stubbies;
a now empty of their worth,
champers bottle a reminder
of a headache short of a blinder, much
confusion around the room
will take another day to clean,
fridge still full of Chrissie fare,
all left from yesterday,
bits and pieces of turkey on the bone,
Woollies’ ham in wrapper,
another day or two will evaporate
on many toasted sangers,
chicken still on carcasses,
will make salads for munches
over the next day or two,
tossed salads all going limp;
they were nice yesterday fresh,
week old prawns will give a miss,
fruit salad sadly lacking punch,
pavlova still looks a tempting though,
Lion’s fruit cake still in box unopened
now a counting the cost
of too much food on plate,
and luckily for me
gym membership in gift card as present,
in order to try out on future course,
and will have to take back
if I can find scrunched up docket,
missing somewhere in pocket,
of missus’s inner garment
way, way too short for occasion
of being tempted in the moment,
will be one of many returned,
as unsatisfactory in length,
when a riding up around rib cage,
and at no stage
did the bloody thing fit over boobs?
and remember friend,
tis only 365 days to go
when it all comes around again…...
