What does this mean

Does this hello mean I’ll never hear goodbye?
Does it mean you will stay?
Can you say the words that hold a truth?
Can you just be who you are?

Maybe that’s what I fell in love with,
The lies you told to comfort me.
Maybe I cared too much to see,
Or it could have all been a dream.

Can you hold me the way you use to?
Can you soothe me the way you did?
Does it have to be this way?
Do we have to pretend anymore?

The nights spent laughing and telling our secrets,
Maybe I hoped you would fall for me like I did for you.
Or the days spent playing games,
Maybe I thought this all meant something.

Can you tell me,
Does it matter?
Maybe you could just say,
What does this all mean.
