What Food is

Traveling by cab I stare

Out the window for a desert of emptiness.

The barren land with

No crops.

No sounds of life.

No creatures

to stir around with the insides.

Very little water, as you would

image a desert landscape.

My taste buds reach for bitter and salty,

They reach for salty and bitter,

But nothing comes to mind.

I ponder at the fact that no water in the desert

Could be catastrophic to those creatures

That need an abundance of the liquid

That keeps us alive.

Life is filled with deserts if

You think about it.

The restless bulls fight in the arena.

Fight until the death.

Magic in the air with particles of dust.

It was the feeling of utter dehydration

With the hallucination of water,

With a disappointing outcome.

Gold can’t stay,

So why can’t water?

Anyway, while I was day-dreaming,

The cab driver swerves off road

Into the void of nature.

Greens surrounded my senses.

I inquire and demand,

But no reaction,

No sense

Of direction.

Starkness overlooks the face of the man.

And I relinquish the fire inside me,

But just for a little while.

I was longing for something that I could

Not describe.

Could not dream.

The empty, ravenous being was indeed inside Me.
