What Happened?

Growing up I was taught that we are all brothers and sisters

That in order to change what is happening we must love one another

Then slowly as time went on the world strted changing

The people that we thought were protecting us turned away

We saw our own brothers shot down by one of our protectors

Our very own sister would never be able to see her family again after an altercation

You see, we should be afraid to be African American/Black

But look at what has been happeneni these past years

Emmett would never be able to graduate

Trayvon could never make it home from the store

Michael will have his hands up, but six bullets later be gone

Tamir would be shot in his torso at only 12 years old

Rumain who was carrying a pill bottle was shot because it looked like a "weapon"

Sandra will be dead in mughot, then her death will become a mystery

Ezell mentally ill will be shot 3 times and no charges will be filed

Akai's shooting would be called an "accidental discharge"

Tony a recent high school graduate won't be able to finish college

Phillip will be lying on the ground with a dog biting his leg and pronounced dead later

Eric would be shot because a deputy officer mistoke his gun for a taser

Freddie's spinal cord injury will soon lead up to his passing

The list goes on and on, but sadly so do the tears

You see while some mother's are tucking their kids in at night

Other's are going to visit them at jail, or even in the graveyard

I wear my title proud that I am an African American

But the more that I see my brother's on TV dying because of police brutality

Makes me wonder, do they want us to succeed or would they rather see us bleed?
