What helps?

When someone you care about is suffering, what helps?

If they are shedding tears and their heart is breaking

what could possibly help?

Do you console them?

Do you lend them your shoulder to cry on?

Do you tell them "Everything will be okay"?

Or do you sit there

letting their sadness drift over you

taking it within yourself?

Some people hate sympathy

thinking that it is pity

while others immerse themselves in it

finding it the only escape from the agony

As for me,

I just want solace

to know that one day,

this pain will end

and so will my friend's.
