What I Can't Live Without
I walk through hallways with
novels reverberating in my head.
I shed tears with whitney over how i have nothing.
lack of these notes that each hold emotion would be a crime against humanity
each artist a humanitarian
feeding me new treats and rap beefs
the one time i’m not vegetarian but i plead the fifth.
without it, the silence is deafening
bruising my eardrums as i await the sweet taste of love.
of lust
of beauty
of hatred
of sin
of trust
all the emotions we are scared to convey
actively portray themselves
in sound.
As i travel through the monotonous cacophony of pointless conversations
and regurgitations of the words someone heard from him who heard it from him who heard it from her
it all gets to be quite maddening.
but as i slip the two white blessings
the only white blessings to ever come to the world
into my ears i feel a release.
catharsis.
my savior.
the gospel as preached by R&B and soul singers
we all swing our hips to the same rhythm
just with different prayers in our heads.
we all need something different and each melody provides it
each crescendo and diminuendo
we plead for love along with the artist.
we become one.
and how could you detach me from my other half?
my better half?
i would be incomplete
in fact, a world without is incomprehensible
instantly injuring millions of people
as this was their crutch.
And yes, sometimes it can be a distraction
but what a beautiful distraction it is
and every time i hear about a new release
something new to give me release
i swear
it’s like music to my ears.
