What I Learned From March

March opened my eyes,

For 15 years I slept as people passed me by,

Before, I'd watch with no emotion as my family wept and cried,

But March made me realize that our closest friends die.

Nearly 6 years of my life gone in a flash,

March made my best friend a being of the past,

And as I watched with sorrow as her life slipped away,

March buried my joy and replaced it with pain.

April crept up slowly and I saw the flowers bloom,

I questioned how they blossomed in the midst of so much gloom,

April whispered to me, "The sun still does shine,"

And in that moment I realized that everything would be fine.

Yes, life brings sadness as our dear friends come and go,

But these experiences shape us and mold us as we grow,

March buried my joy and my tears nourished the soil,

The sun shone in April and flowers grew from my turmoil.

Although I felt alone, in due time I realized,

March was not against me, she sought to open my eyes,

March bought forth the lesson and April helped me see

That the key to enduring life's hardships is to breathe.

Before March I had never realized that this life is fleeting,

Although our loved ones die, our hearts are still beating,

In March it felt like the world had stopped spinning,

I'd fallen down, stopped breathing, and lost all feeling.

April's meditation freed me from March's pain,

And now I understand that March will come again,

But through my self-healing and newfound joy I know

That I can't let too much grief distract me from my glow.
