What I See While Painting

What I See Painting

The rain falls on the pavement

Not a thunder of God Not a scream full of discontent

Not a war cry to tear the grass

But a long slow moan

A low painful whimper

From a God who will not condone

All that man will allow

Like waves of tears washing away fresh white paint

Cleansing the world

Drenching those who felt so faint

The cars passing by don't seem to care

They drive on by with wipers on

Ridding their vision of droplets concealing

Never allowing dawn,

The clouds stay tight as a paint can

No brave droplet of light bleeds through

The cars don't see the rain

They look straight on, they do

Not hearing the moans from above

They see nothing at all

I see them as I see love

I see them

A man and women walk through the moans

They don't see the rain that soaks them through

They drag a suitcase, out of home

Foreclosed or kicked out, I don't know

Lifts his hand to his mouth, takes a drag

Turns to his wife His eyes and pants sag

Knock on a door,

Beg for a roof

A place to sleep, a wooden floor

The cars passing by

Don't see them at all

Don't see them cry

Don't see their eyes burn

I see them. I see them

A flick of white falls among it all

But it's gone before any one can see

It's gone before anyone can care about the fall

All evidence is down the drain

A powder of white is lit aflame

Nearly took a house down

The police and fireman came

And didn't change a thing

An old man dressed in black walks by

Working fast food for his life

The rain makes it impossible to see him cry

He passes by, nods with a sigh

Just going home to see his wife

The rain pours

A couple walks in the door

A house burns to the ground

Officials ignore the drugs they found

A man is close to giving up

But moves on uncorrupt

Hoping for more than gray

Praying amidst all they say

There is more that pain

That the gray is white

Contrast with black

That we can fight

Against the knife we put in our back

Because we all speak english

But don't understand a thing

Our language is foolish

Our speaking is vile

As the water the cars fly through

Just another case in file
