What If?

What if the world was perfect?

What if you looked at something beautiful,

And wanted to take a photo?

But saw underneath was trash from the person

Who lives next door.

What if water was the crystal clear color everyone

Dreams of seeing some day?

Instead of the murky, brown water in the creeks and rivers.

What if people looked up from their screens just once,

And saw the good in others and how we are all human?

Instead of firing hate at one another behind a screen

To someone we don’t think has feelings.

What if we spent more time and money towards others?

But we chose to have greed in our lives instead.

What if we weren’t afraid to let our kids play outside

With their friends and neighbors?

But we have them stay inside, so they don’t disappear.

What if violence of any kind stopped for good

The moment you read this line?

Yet, we still worry about how we are going to

Protect ourselves if something happened to us.

What if all people lived without the fear of a disease?

That they won’t die tomorrow or lose their family

Because of what it did to them.

What if drugs and alcohol were not abused and

Sold illegally?

Maybe then we would have fewer deaths and maybe

Better lives.

What if our world leaders didn’t care about publicity and power?

So, we wouldn’t be afraid of what country might come after us next,

And fear wouldn’t ruin people’s lives.

What if no family went to bed without food or shelter?

Maybe then, we wouldn’t be ushered away from people

Who might actually need our help.

What if mental illness wasn’t a thing?

Instead, we have people getting stares and

Judgemental looks when someone says

They have a mental illness.

What if people weren’t prejudice to others?

People wouldn’t say remarks about color.

Race, or culture.

What if people didn’t want to kill themselves?

Holding onto a thread that is so small

That they are forced to call it life,

And not know where to seek help.

What if this could happen?

What if this life was our reality?

What if all of us made this real?
