What If

If there are no pressures in the world from family and friends and yourself,

Then there would be no urge to push, succeed, and accomplish.

If there was no such thing as misery or happiness,

Then there would be no ups and downs, times to cry, times to laugh, times to live.

If there was only one political party, one race and ethnicity, one person-

Then there would be diversity, no voices and deviated thoughts, no views for better change, same old same old.

If everyone is free to make his or her own choices,

Then there cannot be a right or wrong.

If leaders lead and followers follow,

Then we might all be followers of the same thing.

If we were afraid to speak up,

Then yesterday is today and today is tomorrow.

Words give us the power to dream and think and believe-

Are expressed with the word, if.

That power you can choose to yield,

Yet may anxiety succumb you.

Yesterday’s history and tomorrow’s mystery,

Don’t influence today’s gift-the present.

If ‘what if’ never existed,

Then there will be no hope and no worries.
