What if?

I am sitting here, more like lying, trying to find a way.

What would I say if I saw you once again?

Would I say anything or run and hug you?

It’s been seven years since I last talked to you,

But merely minutes since I saw you and hours since I heard your voice.

How could that be if you are lying so deep?

The memories continue and the pain as well.

The reminder comes every other day,

Especially when I see her face.

They say she looks like you,

But although I love her I couldn't see it.

Until I found a picture when you were younger,

Now I understand what they see.

I can’t help but agree.

The only thing I wish I knew,

Why was it you, when there were others?

These past few years have left me thinking,

What if it was him?

He was after all, behind you,

Would he be where you are today?

If the roles where to have changed?

Deep in the ground, bones to dust, with flowers by your side?
