What if I said?
I live in this box
And this box has no windows, but it has a door.
There is always darkness, except when the door opens.
Then there is light.
But no matter how many times
The door opens, I can’t go through.
There is a glass sheet that separates me from the world.
Then the door closes again.
When the door closes, the water
Comes in, suffocating me.
It comes to my neck and I struggle not to go under.
Then the door opens, so I
Can see the people.
The people who take and take
From me and never give back.
The people who expect you to be
Someone they want, never
Anyone else.
The people who want you
To pick up all their pieces.
No one picks up your pieces.
No one sees that you need someone to listen.
I scream and yell
But they dismiss it.
You never need help according to them.
And I start to cry but no one
Seems to care.
The world is picking pieces out,
The pieces it wants.
I’m falling apart on the inside
And I can’t keep up with the
Glue and thread to stay together.
The door closes and I beg someone
To come and open it.
To save, to help me, comfort me,
To let me cry, to have someone
Pick up my pieces.
So I scream and cry and
Bang on the door, but
Everyone is walking away.
Everyone is leaving me alone
Like always.
I’m alone in this box.
