what inspires me

the gunshots on tv

and the screams on the radio.

the sunny days with him

and the lunch-time laughs with all of them.

the bass in my veins

and the kick-drum in my chest.

the voices on the street

and the harsh eyes on the subway.

the long rides on the train

and the walks across the park.

the cups of coffee

and the baconeggncheese.

the ramen on a countertop

that rests in front of me.

the cigarettes she lit

on the walk from the train.

the violence in my veins

and the war inside my brain.

the broken glass on the floor

and shouts in the hallway.

the crying from the bedroom

and the knocking on my door.

the crackle of a fire

and the record on the player.

the sunsets on the skyline

and the sunrises on the beach.
