What is it?

Sometimes I see,

the darkness in the corners,

it blocks the light,

snuffs out the brilliance.

Many others notice,

they look at it,

think for a minute,

and turn away.

It engulfs, devours,

catches even the best of us,

fills us with fear,

so full, it spills over.

We can show it,

expose it to the light,

take away its power,

win the fight.

But it's woven a web,

of deception, of lies,

blinding us, trapping us,

holding us back like chains.

Chains can be broken,

yet these, they seem unbreakable,

unyielding to our power,

it's all in our head.

That web, of lies and deception,

is just that,

lies,

nothing, hollow.

What is it,

this darkness,

that depends,

on you.
