This Is What It Means To Love
I spend my time now
tiptoeing around
the bloody truth dripping down
my bruised cheeks--
because I love you.
I won't acknowledge the hole in the wall
or the hole in my heart
because I love you.
I won't stop
crossing oceans for you,
with nothing by my tired arms
carrying me through the sea
as you refuse to
step over puddles for me
because I love you.
I'll give you everything I have,
day after day,
and I won't ask for anything in return
because I love you.
I'll keep thinking there's something I can do
to make you better,
to make you love me back.
I'll keep thinking
I'm not loving you enough.
I'll keep thinking that
I need to cut more and more of myself away
to fit what you need me to be,
what you demand from me,
even if I can't leave anything for myself,
even if everything I have isn't enough,
because I love you.
