What it Means to Sink
Around you, I feel my body swarm inside itself like a flood
Water becomes a peaceful pulsation
then waves crash gently
purposefully
on the man-made sand
and without realization the water is without color
Then I realize
transparency now defines me
and your touch turns the water into lava
closer now, your body melts seamlessly into mine
And as one, we transform to make new lands
mounds turn into mountains
and streams move aimlessly into the ocean
What I have lacked to find in nature’s humanistic qualities
I have found in you
Your eyes can pierce through a mountainside, to form a canyon
that will become a spectacle for onlookers
Looking for the same things as I
Your hips speak volumes that not even Epicurus could confide
He spoke of this with such dexterity, that the word “tranquility” took on a whole new meaning
The way your lips have a way to make one sink deep under a hypnotic, catatonic spell
How the lone sailor stranded at sea cries in understanding
Then he, too, begins to sink
