What is Love?
Many people would talk about love
As if
It was beautiful.
Something everyone should feel
At least once
In a lifetime.
But sometimes I think
They don’t understand.
Love is not a feeling.
It is a choice.
A roaring river
Constantly twisting and throwing
Tossing and turning our hearts
As if it's all just a cruel game.
Love is not easy.
It is not always beautiful.
It can be
Adventurous
Exhilarating
But it can also be
Dangerous
And hurtful.
Love is choosing to push through
The good
And the bad.
It is accepting your partner
Without a second thought.
Love is taking risks
It's knowing that you could possibly
Lose your heart
But taking the chance anyway.
Love is a delicate seed of a tree
As it waits patiently
To bloom, unleashing its undeniable beauty
But do you know what it takes?
To bloom into something beautiful?
This seed must be buried
Covered in darkness
Waiting, alone, for the perfect time to rise.
This tree must push itself out of the ground
It must battle against fierce winds
Pouring rain
Lightening
In order to finally
Be strong
And beautiful.
However
Isn’t there always that fear?
The fear of getting cut down?
Torn apart?
Used?
Don’t you see?
Love is like a tree.
We must battle through the hard times
Standing secure
Always
In our partners.
We become beautiful
Happy even
But there is always
That one lingering thought
Of being left
Alone
Our heart’s torn.
What is love?
That’s the big question isn’t it?
Love is not a feeling
Love is a choice
So choose wisely.
