What is Love?
I watch them
Walk out the door
Of my life
Forever
Their footprints are ingrained in my carpet
Their words fixed in my mind
I remember the nights
The arguments
The pain and the hurt
The commands
The lies
I picture their lips moving
Don’t hang out with your friends
Don’t go without me
That’s what you’re wearing to work
Come here or else
I Will Leave
They are gone
I caused it
They were sucking out my soul
And crushing it
Clipped my wings and hid them
And I let them
Because of one word-
Love
But this was not love
Love is Honest
It comes from the heart
Is shown through actions
Is sincere
Love is Free
It is not a pitfall
It is souls rising together
Not tying the other down
Love is Persevering
It suffers
Yet it stays
It endures
Love is Trust
It does not doubt your character
It knows you
It believes in you
Love is Kind
It smiles
It warms your heart
It thinks of you
Love is Patient
It does not rush
It does not force
It allows you to fall into it
That is what love is to me.
