What is Love?
What is love?
Is it the chocolates
And the flowers
And the cards
That come on valentines day
And are gone the next?
Or is it
The smile in the hall
Knowing glances
And the stolen kisses
Behind bends and doors?
Or is it
The whispers in your ear
Against the pillow
And the whispers of the sheets
As they fall to the floor
And the sounds you make
When we make love?
Or is it
The feel of your head on my shoulder
And in my lap
And the feel of your tears
Staining my shirt
And melting my makeup
And your hand wrapped in mine
For forever
As we watch the sun fall and rise?
Or is it
Your name
And my name
Together forever
As we are pronounced
Together
And i take your ring on my left fourth finger
And we kiss for the world to see?
Or is it
Holding your hand
As the monitor beeps
And braiding your hair
And closing your eyes
For the last time
And being the last
To hold your hand
And then saying goodbye
That's more see you soon
Than goodbye?
Or is it
Being nothing without you
Waiting for you to make my heart beat
Thinking of you
Every second of the day
Until its too much
And i have to see you again
And taking a breath
And exhaling blood
And watching the beautiful
Red beads
Fall
Down the drain
And turning pale
And my last breath:
I love you
Or is it
Seeing your face
For the first time in
Forever
And knowing
That we will be together
Forever
Or is it
Telling you this
When we’re only 13
Even though i know you'll laugh
And you laughing
Just like i knew you would
And then showing you this poem
A hundred years from today
And you saying
You were right
Just like i knew you would
And i smile
And you smile
And we are happy
And this is love
