What Love Once Was
If it wasn’t the charm of your perfect smile,
That made my heart race all the while.
If it wasn’t your eyes, so deep, so bright,
Like stars that lit the darkest night.
If it wasn’t the grace in the way you moved,
So effortless, so smooth, so soothed.
If it wasn’t your voice, so calm, so wise,
That left me lost within your lies.
If it wasn’t the way you held your gaze,
The clever tricks, the charming ways.
If it wasn’t the way you took the blame,
Yet played it all like just a game.
If it wasn’t for the way you were made—
I ask myself, would I have not stayed?
Yet—
If it wasn’t the grip that caused me pain,
The yanks, the fear, the silent strain.
If it wasn’t your words, so sharp, so cold,
That cut my heart, that made me fold.
If it wasn’t the threats that stole my peace,
The love that faded, piece by piece.
If it wasn’t the anger, the storms you’d bring,
The bitter taste, the violent sting.
If it wasn’t the rage, the reckless tone,
The way you made me feel alone.
Then I ask myself once again—
Would I have not felt love had flown?
