What Love Should Be

“I love you” is more than a phrase

It should be showed in your actions, your ways.

Showing love doesn’t have to be elaborate,

Just a kind deed that shows you aren’t plastic.

To me, I love you is best shown in simple fashion;

Opening the doors, buying small treats, an action with compassion.

It’s forever caring about a person, a feeling that will last,

And forever wanting to be around them, even if they have a past.

Someone who loves you should never try to hurt you

And should work their hardest to make you happy, too.

I have felt this love, been a part of it

And there is nothing better in the entire world

Than to find someone who’s your perfect fit.

Our world has twisted the concept of love,

They don’t realize it comes from above.

It’s spiritual, it’s happy, it’s all things amazing;

The world will tell you to grow up, quit dazing.

That love is a dream and you need to be smart

To find someone to fill your living room with expensive art

So you don’t have to worry about what dinner will be

And that’s true, but it’s not important to me,

To me, they’re wrong, and most settle too soon,

For everyone has someone who loves them, someone loves you.

We shouldn’t stop until that someone is here,

And once they’re here, we should forever keep them near.

For when things get ugly, the numbers in your bank account won’t matter

But who will be there to wipe your tears and mend your heart after its shattered.
