What Now?
Dear future self,
Throw your cap to the sky, let your gown wisp a w a y in the wind
Look at them with goodbye
What now?
Take
the
leap.
Then begin to follow your w i l d e s t ambitions
And your wildest future
Six hours of coasting through the frothy clouds
From Connecticut to California
Will give you no choice but to reminisce
About the trips you wethered to Block Island
Or the late night rides with friends down the shoreline
The flood of memories growing up
In small town Deep River
The town the built you
Will cause you to clutch your one way plane ticket a little tighter
between the hands that have felt the past
18 years
Yet, they will not cling to your past
Instead, are eager to grasp what follows
This is the moment
you have been restless to be apart of
Though you want this more than anything
There is no sympathy from the butterflies
They will play tag in your belly
The game is innocent
But knowing you, you will wish them to “stop.”
But knowing the pesky butterflies
You will need more than commands to get them to become
Satic.
Then
Your eyes will see
the California coast line
Rising and falling like the current
You are unique honey
Your mind has ideas as big as the ocean
That are just as powerful
Before you know it
You will be surrounding the coastline of California
Consuming the rays of the sun
Finding peace in the everlasting sunshine
Your efforts during your time at home
have been cashed in for opportunity
Finally you will be able to live among the place
You feel the most at home
Among the people you feel the most
connected with
Taking this journey
diving to further depths of education
Will be the best decision of your life
your journey has begun long before now
And has created you, up until this point
You have come far from your first steps
And you will continue to go farther than you planned
This will be the state that quenches you
Power will reveal itself through education
Catapulting you to places your mind has only traveled to
in lieu of keeping dreams trapped in your head
Let them flee to reality
Be prepared
Though you are infatuated with your new home
Despite the sunshine state you will be among
Not everyday will be the brightest
But you will have the power to make every day bright
If you choose
there are many things to remember
When starting a new chapter
But One to live by is
Take
The
leap.
Yours truly,
Past self
