what once was

i once taught your fingertips
the formation of
guitar chords like
E minor and G
i once tasted your lips
the subtle flavor of
spice and fizz
from food and soda
i once loved your sleepy voice
the amusing sound of
your struggle to stay awake
but not saying good night
i once heard you make your choice
the haunting words of
sadness and confusion
that broke a piece of
me
