What Is Poetry?

Most people see a poem and think nothing of it,

Some don't even see it as poem.

Just words thrown on a page,

Many striping it of its name, "because it doesn't rhyme."

Poems are often found,

Bound together, the pages embracing one another,

As the book remains unopened, because

"My aesthetic is totally this cover."

All I can think about now is,

"What happened to not judging a book by its cover?"

Were the poets words simply meant to be held captive,

begging for a chance to breathe, to be heard?

When did poetry become such a tumblr trend?

When I was young, words were my only friend,

Oh, the countless seconds, minutes and hours I would spend,

Pen to paper, silently speaking until the day's end.

Poetry is meant for the soul,

Meant to make the readers heart beat

To the rythm of the words.

Poetry is music without a track.

Some songs stick in your head for a moment,

Some you try to forget forever.

But there wills always be one,

No matter how many times it may be,

That you comfortably listen to on repeat.
