What Poetry Has Taught Me
What has Poetry taught me?
Powerful
Through poetry
I build my strength
I am now in control
But one is never
Truly
In control
We must let it out
The words come as a privilege
Salvage old memories
Forge new thought
Creation
That is what I feel
That is how I change
Poetry is…
Powerful
Open
Your eyes
Your mind
To the journey you are on
From my experience
I have learned a trick
To allow myself to return
To the places I never knew possible
The past
The future
To a world beyond our own
Imagination is running free
Can you see
The opportunities are
Vast
Limited by thyself
Forget what you know
The doors are now
Open
Expressive
When I am upset
When my thoughts become overwhelming
I feel helpless at times
It is the aggression found within
Frozen in my ways
I must release
I learned the key
I found a new road
Through poetry
I feel I can be
Expressive
Timeless
Three O’clock in the morning
Twelve O’clock Noon
Nine O’clock in the morning
Inspiration can strike at any moment
When I work, I feel free
Old poems resurface
Bringing back memories
Good and Bad
Read with a new eye
With a new mindset
Poetry has taught me
Everything written
Can truly become
Timeless
Reliable
Poetry has taught me
When I am home alone
Sitting on my bed
Thoughts running though my head
When there is nothin left to be said
I take out a pen
Open to a new page in my notebook
Open up a blank document
Then, I let my mind loos
Nothing on the mind
Simply an opportunity to find
Something forever hidden behind
Read as a delivered message
Signed
Reliable
Years
Poetry has taught me
How to express myself
Create timeless works
Open my mind to the world around me
Poetry has revealed to me
Part of what it has in store
The absolute power
Especially when I am down
Also, Importantly, while I am up
There are many ways
To turn thought into creation
To reach out to the world
Poetry is one reliable source
Not for days or months, but…
Years
