What Poetry Means to Me

The day I found my voice

is my greatest memory

In class I had a choice

to write a story or poetry

Instead of only choosing one

which would be such a bore

I decided to have fun

before I walked out of that door

Now that I've discovered

this oh so joyous thing

Opportunities have been uncovered

and my heart and soul both sing

I can write out how I feel

or what is out there in the world

Like thoughts that are surreal

or seeing butterfly wings unfurl

I want others to read

just what I have to say

I feel my true self has been freed

and it's now a brand new day
