What Poetry Taught Me

Poetry taught me

To use my own words.

To    space   them out

Holdthemin

To make them

Jump across the page!

Or stay in one place.

To make people laugh,

Cry,

Dance,

Scream,

Or sit there,

Numb,

To

Form

Cool Shapes

Like Tiny Pyramids

Or keep it simple.

Poetry taught me to say what I believe in

And give myself the confidence

To let my voice out.

Poetry taught me to cower in fear,

Be free to show the world why I am afraid,

Or Jump With Joy

When I’m Happy!!!

Poetry taught me that there are no boundaries in anything.

I

Can

Stretch

My

Words

To

Show

I

Am

Flexible

I

Can

Make

My

Words

Run

Down

The

Page

Like

Tears.

This isn’t strict prose. I don’t have to feel shut down. My poem is my free space.

I can do what I like, make what I like,

And everyone else can, too.
