What Reason Do We Have?

Neither of us want pain,

And yet we can’t help but hurt each other.

Neither of us want to feel sad,

Though we insist on saddening the other.

Neither of us want to be angry,

Yet we make each other livid.

Neither of us want to leave,

But what reason do we have to stay?

When we are filled with nothing but despair,

We must make certain to brighten one another's’ day,

For neither of us deserves such sadness.

When either of us bears an insatiable anger,

We must meet this rage with assuagement,

For there is always a way to fan the flames.

When one of us has been beaten into submission,

We must pick one another up,

For if we do not, then who will?

We mustn’t simply wait for a reason to arise, nay.

We must make a reason to be with each other,

Else our time together will be meaningless.
