What Survives a Storm?

Is it a feather, that weighs enough to be picked up and thrown?

Does it even take a storm to carry a feather into the sky?

To be twisted and broken by the next object it touches?

The same can be said with people

Do they weigh anything or do they wait around to be picked up and tossed around by the powers that be?

Sometimes it doesn’t even have to be a storm but a small breeze.

Place a Great Oak tree in the storm and it surely would not blow away like a feather.

Deep roots and strong trunks and branches would keep it from bending to the storm...

The Great Oak would refuse to bow to the wind until it is ripped out of the ground

dragged about the earth in its entirety

until it didn’t seem so mighty and strong.

It sounds like a very meager existence to be so commanded by whatever slight breeze decides to blow

It would be better to be the Great Oak tree, whose steadfast hubris refuses to be swayed by anything.

That is.. until it is ripped out of the ground roots, trunk, leaves, branches, and all.

Then the oak tree realizes that it is not as great, immortal, and all-powerful as it once thought.

The entity that bends and respects the storm’s power

yet whose roots and groundings refuse to be dictated by each and every indecision of the wind at least give it a fighting chance.

I love the title. It's the best, most compelling title I've ever seen. I liked the poem a lot, too. Haha
