What a Teacher can do

You showed me I was of substance.

You showed me I knew something.

You showed me my voice mattered.

You showed me that I had a future.

The parents I had did not show me any of these things.

My parents simply showed me their hand, ushering me away.

They showed me that I was a distraction.

They showed me that I was an inconvenience.

However,

You showed me I am capable of doing amazing things.

You were not paid to show me that.

You were simply paid to give me content knowledge.

But,

You were not paid to make me feel worthy.

You were not paid to give me hope in myself.

You simply did so because you saw the potential in me.
