What Territory

I walk onto safe territory

Wait for the fog to engulf me

I try to untangle the knots that are made out of my strength.

Suddenly, whispers, words, and wisps of phrases.

I wait for it to stop but it doesn’t.

I wait for it to turn into the wind and fly away but it doesn’t.

I wait for it to silence, like it should be in the late, dark hours of the night.

They haven’t surrendered yet?

Why?

The wisps get louder, the whispers get harsher, and the words get darker.

I arise and prepare for the clash between armies.

Get up or stay still and wait for peace?

Gear up or be an easy target?

I hear the bullets but remain stationary

Knots tightening refusing to release my strength.

Roses and handshakes of agreement?

Loving stares and soft smiles?

Although hugs and kisses do not exist at this base, there can be some loving ambiance if all were in agreement.

A wife accusing her husband

Preposterous

A husband telling his wife to lower her voice

Now that’s more like it

Ideologies will remain

And battles will persist.
