What they didn't tell us

They told us freshman Friday was a thing A day where seniors threw us in the ring Thinking seniors were people I wanted to avert I stayed away so I didn’t get hurt They didn’t tell us once we talked to some of them We’d find out we sprouted from the same stem They told us the classes were going to be easy That the teachers didn’t make you feel queasy And although these later turned out to be true All year I waited for it to be through They didn’t tell us when the end finally came The undeniable sadness was ours to claim They told us if you didn’t party you weren’t cool Not being there turned you into a ghoul But weekends were meant to be spent with real friends So I hope those jocks I didn’t offend They didn’t tell us staying home gave you time to do your homework Getting better grades would make your face smirk They told us time would fly by And at the end everybody would cry We’d all say we’d stay in touch Congratulations and such They didn’t tell us we’d miss everything we came to known Or that after it was over we’d be once more alone
