What To Think?

From speeches to marches

Black people are the target

We were segregated way before we picked cotton out gardens

Drowning in tears and don't know what to think

Is it because we're black or because we're free

2 people die every time you blink

Our society is ruined and causing us to sink

African american men entered the field but didn't make it out

Could’ve chose another path but chose the wrong route

Black on black crime because we disagree

Why can’t we see that the system is put against you and me

Harriet Tubman traveled along the underground

Gandhi believed that 1 day they would come around

Martin brought peace so his people can speak

Rosa parks had a long day so didn’t give up her seat

Mamas trying to stay strong and not break down

Because they know were looked at as nothing more than clowns

Were all imprisoned we just can’t see

Just because we dont wear chains doesn’t mean this isn’t slavery

Just because we’re not on our knees bowing down

Doesn’t mean the white man doesn’t have the crown

Why can’t they just leave us be

We don’t see eye to eye and we never agree

Malcom X went from town to town

To see who he can convert to the nation Islam

Emitt till died before he got the chance to plea

Ruby bridges integrated a white school so that we can read

They say that success is the key to the “All American dream”

But where's the education if our schools are shut down

Taking it out the places we call our home town

Who would’ve thought it would be this hard to get a degree

Who would’ve thought we were the roots of the economy

Today’s society is known as a generational meltdown

Taught growing up to play the white mans playground

Muhammad Ali had a trick up his sleeve

When refusing to enlist in the national army

Frederick Douglas taught himself how to sound out a noun

Maya Angelo performed poems in front of large crowds

Till this day we still have segregated parts of town

The government steadily mentally beating us down

And all because…. What our skin is brown
