what we are

I felt awkward saying last night "I don't know what we are but I'm glad we are."

It felt awkward because I didn't know, and I hate not knowing things. I thought it over and over all day that day.

When we talked and laughed in the window seat I tried figuring out what are we?

When we flirted via texting I puzzled over what are we?

When you grabbed my hand and we interlaced our fingers shyly  for the first time; behind the smile plastered on my face my brain was trying to understand, what are we?

Even at 4 in the morning when I awkwardly said "happy first kiss" I was thinking through the haze of happiness, what are we now?

And today after we dropped you back off at your cage of a home I finally realized what we are:

We are human. We are happy. And that's all that matters.
