What We Call Them
Rain was driving outside Thunder, lightning, crying wind They know something terrible is happening Hiding low to the ground Listening for the drummers sound Guns slung on their backs Ready for attack They shouldn’t have to do this We call them men and women But they’re just girls and boys Who are scared of what’s to come They don’t wanna hurt no one We call them heroes We call them martyrs But what are we When they’re the ones dyinging willingly Isn’t there a better way? We’ve been through war A thousand times before, But why? Each new war, with its brand new weapons More and more lives Lost to the cause, of freedom? But for every battle abroad There’s a battle at home to be fought When they come home broken and torn And help unfound is sought We call them men and women But they’re just girls and boys Who are scared of what’s to come They don’t wanna hurt no one We call them heroes We call them martyrs But what are we? When they’re the ones dyinging willingly Isn’t there a better way? Make peace, end war Hate less, love more You will have the upper hand You’ll be the one who’s left to stand If you bring truth, not lies Fight for what you know is right Don’t let anyone stand in your way We call them men and women But they’re just girls and boys Who are scared of what’s to come They don’t wanna hurt no one We call them heroes We call them martyrs But what are we When they’re the ones dyinging willingly Isn’t there a better way On a brand new day That will come someday Anyone can be a hero Anyone can make a change I think we’ve found A better way
