What We Had

Whenever you get the chance,

Please,

Think about what we had.

Not what we should have had

Or could have had,

But what we did have,

And what we learned.

You opened my eyes

And I thank you for showing me

I was blinded by the religion

I had formed around you.

I opened your heart

And I hope you’ve learned it’s okay

To have feelings and fears.

So please,

Whenever you can,

Think about what we had.

Not just the good,

Not just the bad;

Think about you,

Please think about me, too,

And think about what you learned

So you can be better

For her.
