What We Own
To my first love,
Seven words and a question mark later,
we became the owners of something new,
something fresh….
We own the moment that the clock ticks
1 1 : 1 1,
the moment we plead to some unexplainable power
to grant us our wishes....
We own the rectangle shaped dirt on the side of the road
that looks out to Solberg Airport:
perfect spot to watch
for shooting stars tearing apart night's blanket...
and the song ¨Party in the USA¨…
I swear Miley wrote it specifically for our concerts in the car.
The old green ping pong table that sits too close to the wall
is owned by you and me:
battle grounds for our competitive sides.
We own the moments where silence should prevail,
when the crickets should be the only ones talking...
But even on relaxed and still summer nights,
idling in in the backroads,
you can't let those crickets make conversation for us.
Our minutes are never wasted on silence
because there is no time to waste…
We own November 4th, lane 32, the jerseys stamped 23 and 7.
And the most important thing,
one that will never be forgotten, is that we each own our friendship and love….
And that my friend,
is priceless.
Sincerely,
Your first love
