What We Would Never Be
The sun shone above in hopes of a great day,
But inside there is a storm cloud; all is gray.
I thought you might want to see the light in me,
But instead you saw what we would never be.
My torn up heart escaped out of my chest
And told my rejected brain to give it a rest.
Then all the memories start coming alive,
And somehow I can't resist: the pain inside.
My scattered heart is going in reverse;
How did I get stuck with this unwanted curse?
Your random love, your horrible denial,
Your ghastly repudiation, your beautiful smile.
You're a calm sea; the current still and quiet,
But I’m a hurricane and about to start a riot.
Your words fill my heart but only for a second,
Until I’m reminded of your awful rejection.
The times we spent together, the smiles we shared,
The tears that had fallen, the times that you cared.
You were my prince charming, my god from above.
You kindly helped me up, then gave me a shove.
Everyone saw it and thought that they knew,
It wasn't a secret, wasn't out of the blue.
But your ego was stronger, better than me,
And now I’m stuck wondering what we could be
If only you'd listened, followed my dreams
My heart wouldn’t be here, crashing like beams.
It’s not my fault I found someone new
Who would have known, the rumors were true!
