What the Wolf Howled Over Me

And the day that I died
I lay and cried to the sky
The white bearded eagle in outrage
Flew over me and let out a silent scream

And there as I lay
Halalu halala is what the wolf
Howled over me

The Turtle and Atlas tumbled the world
And Neptune fought with the squid
The coded word came and the translation went
And I laid and cried to the sky

And there as I lay
Halalu halala is what the wolf
howled over me

Cannons boomed and tanks rolled by
And tracks were left on my grave
The eagle in outrage
Flew over me and let out a silenced scream

And the weeping tree knelt
And wiped them away
As it shed its tears for me

And there as I lay
Halalu Halala is what the wolf
Howled over me

And the owls called to each other to ask
“who” in the silenced woods
They took to the air and with the eagle
Flew over me and let out a silenced scream

Bullets flew by and craters were made
Green moved in green
And the fox ran by
To tell his brethren of hell

And there as I lay
Halalu Halala is what the wolf
Howled over me

And the day that I died
I lay and I cried to the sky
That every word spoken was another one said
And the wind only knew what was whispered

And there as I lay
Halalu Halala is what the wolf
Howled over me

The breath of the earth
Blew across the land
And Atlas and the Turtle righted the world
And Neptune and the squid slunk into the sea
Never to be heard of again

And there as I lay
The owls and fox and eagle and wolf
All cried Halalu Halala
Over me

And as I sit in the sky
And watch the world die
I think back to the time
That I laid and cried to the sky

And my heart soars to
The white bearded eagle
And allows it to scream
And the fox returns to its kits

The owls return to their silenced woods
To ask not out of respect
For now with the honor of country and man
I can rest more peacefully

But still as I lay
Halalu Halala is what the wolf
Howls over me
