What Would You Change

Welcome To America

This is what I would change

Welcome to America the land of the free

The modernized, uncivilized cage

Where soldiers fight for liberty

But the residents never use freedom’s key

For we are still stuck on slavery’s page

When will we turn to see that this is a new age

You can hold a lion down

And expect him to be the actor on your stage

If you keep a lion caged you only drive it to rage

When will he be free, and win back his crown

He was meant to be more, than what you let him be

You can hear it in his ancestors heartbeat

Even though chains and shackles you can’t see

The mind still remains in captivity

And it’s time to give him freedom’s seat

Welcome to America the would-be-free

If you would open our eyes that are blind

To see, that the lion you held was me

But there are many others like the one you see

But beware, because a more benevolent lion you will never find
