What You Did
I can still feel your green eyes piercing my body
Your wandering hands reaching out for mine
I remember looking at you was like looking at the sun
For once everything was bright
Then you decided you preferred the dark
I remember my dad making me promise to never let anyone treat me anything less than a queen
And I also remember the moment I realized I had failed him
I can still see myself in my room looking into nothing, feeling empty
You did this, but your coward self will never accept it
You were supposed to hold me
You were supposed to make me smile
You were supposed to take care of me
You were supposed to not break my heart
But most importantly you were supposed to love me
I always did
And I guess I loved you a little too much
I remember the day we broke up
And I remember you telling me a few days later how you wanted me back
“I need you with me”
“I can’t be without you”
And your favorite one
“I’ve changed because I love you”
But that isn’t love
When you love someone you want to protect them no matter what
When you love someone you make sure you give them the moon and stars
When you love someone you don’t lie or keep secrets from them
When you love someone you keep them
When you love someone you don’t hurt them
But you hurt me
And that isn’t love
I wonder how is it that you sleep at night knowing you did me so wrong
How can you not feel guilty after playing with my heart?
You’ll probably never tell me the truth
But I’ll always thank you for teaching me right from wrong
Because now I know that what you gave me isn’t love
