What You Forget, I Will Remember

When I look at the world from afar, I will remember her as she is. I will remember the grandeur that came out of the many who occupied her surface. I will remember all that was achieved by such a seemingly divided people. For all our struggling, bickering and fighting is there not that which we can be proud of? Is there not that which we may all climb to the nearest tall building and bellow every thought, every memory, every ounce of pride that has ever resonated from the uncounterfeitable existence that we call us?! We never have been and never will be our for-bearers. We as a people may live surrounded by a seemingly dying realm but we are not the evil offspring of misanthropy. We are not the unapproved carriers of selfish and cultural myopic ideals. We may be here or there. We may believe this or that. We may look like us, them, him, her or it. We are human, before all else. And I will never forget it.

Throughout my day I am bombarded by the negative energy of the people around me. This "No faith in humanity" generation has not yet swayed me to do just that. My poem is the embodiment of my belief in our species.
